Where is Colombo located?

Colombo is located in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is a small island country located just south of India.  Geographically, Colombo is situated in the western province of Sri Lanka and has been at the center of Sri Lankan political, economic and cultural life since it was made commercial capital in 1815. Colombo is the second most populous city of Sri Lanka and its commercial capital. It is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to Sri Lanka's main port, the Port of Colombo.

How to travel to Colombo from abroad?

Colombo International Airport (Airport Code: CMB) is the main international airport in Sri Lanka. It is located in the town of Katunayaka, just north of Colombo. The airport has a passenger capacity of 7.5 million annually and is also capable of handling cargo traffic for more than 1,000 tonnes per annum. There are many travel links from Colombo Airport to the centre of Colombo.

The airport is equipped with state-of-the-art terminals that will offer passengers a high level of comfort. The airport also provides free wi-fi connectivity for airlines passengers and visitors alike.

Sri Lanka Airlines, the national carrier of Sri Lanka, with its headquarters at the Colombo International Airport. It has its hub at the Colombo International Airport and operates flights to and from destinations throughout Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania.

 

The Climate in Colombo

There is a tropical wet and dry climate in Colombo. The city has three different seasons: a wet season from May to October, a dry season from November to April and a hot season from November to March. The rainfall during the monsoon period is heavy and the humidity is high. The average temperature in Colombo during this period is 27 degrees Celsius.

 

The Economic Development in Colombo

The development of Colombo's economy has been slow, but new economic developments are starting to make an impact. The central business district is gradually developing and the tourism industry continues to grow.

Port City Colombo is the most recent large-scale development project in Colombo. The Chinese funded project is set to bring much awaited investment to the city of Colombo. 

The government is investing in infrastructure projects like the Outer Circular Highway, which links some parts of Colombo to the city's outskirts. Construction of another highway started in 2018 and is expected to be completed by 2023.
